Mechanical Engineer

Spur Design is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team and lead in performing the planning, designing, and managing of the MEP engineering work within the company. This person would be producing HVAC and Plumbing infrastructure engineering calculations, processes, equipment selections, construction drawings, and more for a varied types of architectural, engineering, and construction-based projects. The ideal candidate is organized, a self-starter, detail-oriented, and collaborative.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Provide mechanical HVAC and/or plumbing engineering design calculations and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices; including BIM (Building Information Modeling), systems design, client liaison, contract documentation, and some construction administration.

  • Take responsibility for time management of assigned jobs.  Keep an accurate daily record of the time spent on each assigned job, billable and non-billable. 

  • Proactively pursue training, development, and mentoring of junior staff both within and outside of project related tasks. 

  • Work with director of mechanical engineering, associate principal of engineering, and operations principal to contribute toward the improvement of Spur Design’s methods and processes. 

  • Support requests for assistance related to marketing, project interviews, level of effort estimates, and project proposals. 

  • Attend office meetings and report on a regular basis regarding the progress of individual projects and junior staff. 

  • Travel for (but not limited to) site visits, professional collaborations, and satellite office visits. 

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Spur Design offices. 

  • Assist in the maintenance of office systems including updating of trade libraries and filing systems. 

  • Act at all times to ensure the safety of yourself, other staff, clients, and visitors. 

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in Mechanical and Plumbing design in a construction-based (AEC) industry.

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited four-year college or university in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • PE Licensure is required.

  • Able to balance project deadlines, responsiveness to project changes, training of junior staff, push the design standards of the department forward, and maintain the quality of them all.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with various software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Bluebeam, etc.

  • Drafting knowledge and experience a priority

    • REVIT experience is preferred

    • AutoCAD experience is a plus

  • Other industry related experience in the field is a plus

The ideal candidate is organized, a self-starter, detail oriented, and collaborative.

 

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ Years of Mechanical and/or Plumbing design experience in a construction-based (AEC) industry

  • Experience developing designs and construction documentation for MEP systems, but not limited to; HVAC systems, ductwork, plumbing piping, sanitary piping, hydronic systems and piping, steam systems and piping, med gas systems, and/or automated building control systems.

  • Have passed or plan to take the NCEES approved FE (fundamentals of engineering) Exam.

  • Able to balance deadlines, responsiveness to project changes, and maintain the quality of both.

  • Willing to learn and grow in the position and job field

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with various software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Bluebeam, etc.

  • Drafting knowledge and experience a priority

    • REVIT experience is preferred

    • AutoCAD experience is a plus

  • Previous industry related experience in the field is a plus
