New Administration Building
Michael E. DeBakey VAMC
This new Administration Building is approximately 18,000 GSF and is located within an existing parking lot on the northwest side of the MEDVAMC campus. The new two-story building was designed to coordinate with the existing buildings on the MEDVAMC campus; it is being constructed of tilt-up concrete panels and a steel framing system. The tilt-up concrete is being formed with several corrugated pan liners to provide texture in select locations. The design also incorporates an abundance of glazed openings, providing natural light to the interior spaces.
The interior was designed to maximize flexibility and allow the administration to meet future needs as they arise. Building systems are located towards the center of the structure to allow for an organized area of offices and conference rooms along the perimeter of the floor plan, maximizing daylighting and creating flexibility of open office areas. The design of the private offices and conference rooms includes movable full height partitions which will allow for future flexibility of these spaces as well. The building design also incorporates many sustainable design features set forth by the VA Sustainable Design and Energy Reduction Manual.
